Sabriel...ish

Sabriel again. Sort of. Couldn't really get the key pattern into her surcoat and in the end I just wanted it done. I have this love/hate thing with graphite, since I like using it but it always gets frustrating and never scans particularly well. And I have never yet been able to colour it in a way that doesn't look awful. Back to watercolour and digital for now, I think. Won't get another illu of her done in time for school, but I lav those books so I'll probably give it a few more goes later as well. 

   

Sabriel character design

Variations of the character design for Sabriel, the main character from the book Sabriel by Garth Nix, the first in the Old Kingdom series. They are pretty much my favourite books, so I chose to do some work involving them for the big self-initiated uni project thing. Mostly just taking different looks at her surcoat here. The keys in the sucoat pattern could probably do with being spaced out a little more, but it's just a shorthand for the pattern really and they need to be big enough to be seen when printed.

(Also I guess this doesn't look particularly female, but at the same, cover a gal in layers of clothing and armour and her figure will sort of disappear. I am not of the furkini or boob plate school of armouring when it comes to women.)

D&AD Entry

From a month or two ago for the Little White Lies brief from the D&AD student awards. Didn't get anywhere with it, though. The type isn't a font, just a thing I BSed in photochop haha.

Editorial Briefs

All three finished pieces for the uni editorial brief project (How to be Conceited, How to Undo Things, and Why Small Victories Matter).

Conceited

Image for a uni brief that uses an article called 'How to...be Conceited' by Guy Browning. I quite like the way this came out. Might tweak colour a bit more before deadline, but I've still got the other two parts of the brief to worry about ahurhur.

Spam

Finished Spam uni brief. Well, finished until I stare at it some more and decide I'm not done painting. Also probably need to open the file on another computer to correct colours etc. so saturation and darks might be a bit out of whack.

Spam WIP

Uni brief. Hypothetical Spam ad campaign. I started this in traditional media, but that didn't go so awesome, so digital it is. WIP shot numero uno, with no single part of it done.
